As part of a large-scale crackdown on dissent against sectarian rule, the Houthi militia carried out a campaign of violations, including kidnappings and forced disappearances, against citizens, as well as leaders, members, and supporters of the General People's Congress, the party founded by the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Since the beginning of September, the Houthi militia has launched a wide-scale kidnapping campaign, targeting dozens of young people, activists and educators. This wave of detentions has increased in intensity over the past three days ahead of the anniversary of the September Revolution, which commemorates the overthrow of Imam Muhammad al-Badr.
The arrest campaign carried out by the Houthi militia comes within the framework of its ongoing suppression of political, social, and human rights activists in the areas under their control. Their targeting included leaders of the General People's Congress.
This revolution, which began in 1962, ended the rule of the Houthis’ predecessors and established the republic.
Wings of the General People's Congress abroad condemned the horrific human rights violations committed by the Houthi coup militia against national, social, academic and media figures and activists in areas under its control.
