In Taiz governorate, southwestern Yemen, health authorities recorded 910 cancer cases since the beginning of this year, including 290 breast cancer cases, nearly a third of recorded incidents.
The health ministry attributed spread of the dangerous disease to lack of early diagnosis, ignorance of the disease, forgoing routine health screenings, and the distance from specialized health centers.
The ministry called on all people, both male and female, to respond positively to the Pink Campaign implemented by the National Cancer Control Foundation in the governorate to prevent breast cancer.
Every year in October, Yemen launches a breast cancer awareness campaign to encourage women to undergo medical examinations to reduce the likelihood and effects of contracting this disease.
