In a meeting with the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, highlighted the importance of Yemen’s security and stability for the Egyptian national security and the Red Sea region.
During the meeting, Abdelatty stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of navigation in such a vital maritime corridor, noting the decline in Suez Canal revenues due to the tensions in the Red Sea.
He stressed the need for a comprehensive political solution that addresses the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviates their humanitarian suffering, drawing upon the Yemeni National Dialogue, the GCC Initiative, the Riyadh Consultations, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Cairo's unwavering support for the government in Yemen and highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to provide vital medical and food aid to the Yemeni people. He also emphasized Egypt's role in hosting over a million Yemeni citizens, ensuring their well-being and facilitating their integration into Egyptian society.
