US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed their shared concerns about security in Haiti and Somalia, as well as captives detained by the Houthis.
On June 6, six UN human rights staff, including one woman and five men, were arrested together with seven other UN personnel, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
According to a statement from the US Department of State, during a phone discussion on Friday, Blinken praised the progress made by the Multinational Security Support (MSS) operation in Haiti.
The two leaders also addressed funding options for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and "steps to secure the release of all UN, diplomatic, and nongovernmental organization staff detained by the Houthis in Yemen."
