The Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS NET) has warned that the number of Yemenis requiring urgent food aid is set to soar to 19 million by next year. The ongoing conflict, coupled with severe economic challenges, has pushed millions to the brink of starvation.
The report highlights the dire situation in both Houthi-controlled and government-held areas. Currency shortages and inflation have crippled businesses, leading to soaring food prices and limited job opportunities.
The crisis is expected to peak during the lean season (February-March) when millions of households, especially in Houthi-controlled regions, will struggle to meet their basic food needs. Without immediate and sustained humanitarian assistance, the situation in Yemen is likely to deteriorate further.
