Untied Nation Secretary-General Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg concluded Monday another visit to Iran’s capital Tehran, where he met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and other senior Iranian officials, according to a press release by the Office of the Special Envoy.
Before flying to Tehran, Grundberg, visited Sana’a, Yemen, for first time since 2023, where he held discussions with the Houthi rebels to renew engagement on the political process, focusing on addressing challenges and exploring possibilities for advancing peace within the region’s complex context.
While in Sana’a, the Special Envoy urged the Houthies to release “immediately and unconditionally the detained personnel from the UN, NGOs, civil society, and diplomatic missions. He echoed the Secretary General’s message that the arbitrary detentions are unacceptable and constitute a violation of international law.
Grundberg’s visit to Sana’a, came following a visit to Muscat, Oman, where he met with the Omani Foreign Ministry Undersecretary and a representative of the Houthi rebels who is based in Oman, discussing concerted efforts to advance peace in Yemen.
