The Yemeni Internationally Recognized Ministry of Water and Environment signed a memorandum of understanding with the Green Climate Fund, which aims to strengthen institutional capabilities and expand the scope of climate investments, within the framework of the 2024-2027 preparedness strategy, according to the Ministry's website .
The agreement focuses on developing national environmental policies and improving plans to adapt to climate change, in addition to enhancing cooperation with donors and international institutions to ensure the sustainability of climate projects and accelerate their implementation.
The agreement also includes appointing an expert to support the Ministry in implementing national preparedness programs and benefiting from the funds available from the Green Climate Fund, in addition to enhancing coordination between stakeholders from the government, civil society, and the private sector, to ensure the implementation of effective and sustainable climate projects.
Yemen Internationally Recognized Government Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, considered the agreement a pivotal step in the process of strengthening climate security in Yemen, as it will contribute to raising the ability to confront the challenges of climate change and protect the environment.
He called on international partners and donors to intensify cooperation and support efforts, to ensure the implementation of sustainable projects in the fields of water and food security, public health, and renewable energy, in a way that enhances society’s ability to adapt to the effects of climate change.
