The ten-year war in Yemen has caused the country to lose an estimated quarter of a trillion dollars of its national income, according to the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the internationally recognized government.
Minister Waed Badib explained during a dialogue session, held within the activities of the Fourth Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, that the ongoing war in Yemen since 2015 led to the country losing more than half of its national income, amounting to $250 billion. It also caused the value of the national currency to deteriorate by about 700%, the cumulative inflation rate to reach 183, and the unemployment rate to rise to 80%.Badhib pointed out that Yemen faces several challenges with economic, social, humanitarian and institutional dimensions, which requires strengthening coordination between the government, its institutions and regional and international partners, and aligning donor interventions with national priorities.
