The wife of a UN envoy office’s staff in Sana'a, Sami Al-Kalabi, who was detrained nine months ago , appealed to the Houthis to release him.
Hoda Al-Ra’adi posted a tweet on “X” platform saying: “I appeal to you, with the heart of a grieving wife, to look with mercy at our suffering. My husband has been away from us for nine months, and his children are asking about him”.
Adding, "For the sake of humanity, for the sake of justice, and for the sake of the holy month of Ramadan, I beg you to return him to us”
Al-Kalabi, was kidnapped by armed Houthis who stormed is home on the morning of Thursday, June 6, 2024, forcibly searched it, and took him to an unknown location.
His family has not received any information about his fate or the reasons for his detention by the militia, while all appeals launched by his wife, Hoda Al-Raadi, were ignored.
The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, was in Sana’a last January and, according to his office, he began his trip to Sanaa by visiting the home of his Al-Kalabi.
The office added that the envoy expressed his "deepest sympathy for what they have endured during this difficult period, and offered his support to them."
He also "expressed his solidarity with the families of all detainees”.
The Houthi rebels have kidnapped scores of local UN, Embassies and international NGOs missions, in addition to journalists and activists, as well as many workers in academic and educational institutions
