A strong magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred in the Arabian Sea 195 km (121 mi) from  Yemen in the early morning of Wednesday, Jan 21, 2026 at 5.05 am local time, according to .volcanodiscovery.com

United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake was not felt (or at least not reported so), and its depth could not be determined, but is assumed to be shallow.

The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Qalansiyah, a town with 3,500 inhabitants in Yemen, in 198 km (123 mi) distance south of the epicenter. People likely experienced weak shaking there.
